Prior to Surveying vessels John worked in Boat Yards from Kittery Maine, to Ft Lauderdale, Florida as a diesel repair technician. John held a 100Ton US Coast Guard Masters License for decades with a tow and sail endorsement, now retired. John has spent years on the water, delivering vessels from the Caribbean to the East Coast, Maine to Florida, South America to North Africa, and the Intercoastal waterway, wintering in the Bahamas for the past two years. Brailsford Marine Surveying strives to provide accurate and complete surveys of Yachts & Small Craft to assure systems meet all required standards set forth by USCG CFR’s, along with recommended industry standards of the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) and The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), for build, systems, and safety. Many older boats will not meet all current recommended standards, therefore dated systems found to be in other than good serviceable condition, or unsafe, will be found deficient with recommendation to upgrade to current standards.
Adhering to standards alone, however, will not evaluate the significance of moisture readings, corrosion, level of wear & tare, or other deficiencies that may be found during a survey. I strive to uncover all discoverable issues while performing surveys under existing constraints to assure as complete a picture of the condition of a vessel at the time of the survey as possible.
