2019 marked the 25th anniversary of Bluegrass Diesel. We have been a full time, full service diesel engine service shop since we started over 25 years ago. Over the road or industrial, our professional team of diesel specialists is dedicated to you engine service needs.

Sam Hern bought three Mercury outboard motors in 1947 and began building race boats in his backyard in Norwood, Ohio. As the first Mercury outboard dealer in Cincinnati, he expanded to family runabouts in the early 1950’s and moved to Seymour Ave, just across from the Cincinnati Gardens. In 1976, son Jack and good friend Jim Stewart purchased Hern Marine. In 1979, Hern Marine moved to Fairfield, Ohio on Route 4 just off the new I-275 beltway. As the new century came in, so did two additional partners: Jimmy Stewart, son of Jim Stewart and long-time employee Ron Cummins, Sales Manager. Ron and Jimmy have taken the business to new heights making Hern Marine the largest dealer for several boat brands and have expanded their online accessory presence substantially. In 2021, Brad Cummins, son of Ron Cummins and AJ Stewart, son of Jimmy Stewart came on-board as partners. Jack and Jim have sailed off into retirement but are still enjoying the water… without the stress!

We are equipped with both 25 and 60 ton travel lifts as well as a wide range of trailers. Located on 22 acres, we offer a full range of marine services, inside and outside dry dockage, launching of transported vessels and retrieval of vessels for transport.
