The Crescent Boat Club was formed in 1867. Men back from the Civil War merged two rowing clubs, the Pickwick and Iona clubs, and after receiving a declaration from the City of Philadelphia, built the current boathouse along the bank of the Schuylkill River.

The West End Boat Club is a members only club with a Marina and Clubhouse (bar, kitchen and dining room). The Clubhouse also has an extended dining area that can be closed off for private parties.
