James Lawler is the Owner and Operator of Infocus Marine Boat Repair and Detailing. James entered the marine industry in 2001, working for a marine hardware store and aboard a number of commercial fishing vessels in Alaska. After serving in the United States Coast Guard James went into new mega yacht construction as a finish fiberglass/ Yacht painter then transitioned into full-service shipyard work. In 2008 he formed Infocus Marine, which has operated in four states (Alaska, Washington, Alabama and North Carolina) and has contracted internationally (United Arab Emirates and South Africa). In 2011 James attended the Marine Mechanics Institute (MMI) so he could expand Infocus Marine to include marine mechanical and system services. After graduating James went back in to new construction as mechanic / Marine technician for a custom aluminum catamaran company where he was able to build upon his skills and understanding of marine systems. with the experience over the years James has helped run a boat yard and a shipyard managing up to 50 employees at a time with vessels up 450′ in length James has experience in most trades in the marine Industry and has successfully finished multi million dollar

We provide lifts, launches, and pressure washing; while offering opportunities for local businesses to provide maintenance and repair services to any customer. Islands Marine Center (IMC) was launched in 1972 by Jennifer and the late Ron Meng (1954-2013). These hardworking newlyweds established IMC on Lopez Island, a remote location where few could see the need or feasibility for a marina. Despite naysayers, the couple buckled down and slowly expanded from selling parts and marine services out of the trunk of a Volkswagen to what has become a full-service marina, boat dealerships and repair facility with more than 25 employees. Now, almost four decades later, IMC attracts customers from all across Washington as well as maintaining a strong customer base throughout the United States. IMC believed success would hinge on its ability to find a market niche and then fill it better than anyone else. We knew early on that Lopez is “40 minutes from America” said Ron. “In order to stay in business we had to offer something unique. People pass up a lot of other boat dealerships to come to us.” As the commercial fishing fleet in the San Juan Islands waned in the late 1970s and pleasure boating began to fill the void, the Mengs noticed that many boaters were purchasing the wrong kind of vessel for their needs. They also noticed many boaters didn’t know how to properly run or care for their boats.
