Joe has been in the maritime industry for over 30 years. Starting out as a waterman from the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, moving on, as a merchant seaman and Tug captain.
Joe now holds a 200 Ton Master's license, endorsed for Towing and Auxiliary Sail upon oceans as well as able seaman unlimited.
Joe is a designated examiner and qualified assessor for towing vessels, as well as a master marine surveyor recognized by the US Surveyors Association. Joe is also a member of ABYC and an ABYC certified diesel technician.
Joe has had articles pertaining to life on the Chesapeake Bay, published in Chesapeake Style Magazine.

Homeport Marine Surveys performs yacht, small craft, and commercial vessel survey services. Pre-Purchase Survey: This is the most comprehensive type of inspection, and is strongly recommended when purchasing a new or used vessel. Condition and overall operation of the vessel will be inspected. The survey content evaluates the overall condition of the vessel including areas such as structural integrity, electrical systems, the propulsion system, the fuel system, auxiliary machinery, navigation equipment, miscellaneous on-board systems, cosmetic appearance, electronics and overall maintenance in addition to an out-of-water hull inspection and a sea trial.

About The Boat Marine Surveying has been committed to the profession since 2003.
Ray Bracken is an AMS (Accredited Marine Surveyor) with SAMS (Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors). SAMS is one of two internationally recognized professional marine surveying organizations dedicated to promoting the good image and general well being of our profession. SAMS accepts for membership only those professionals who have demonstrated the technical skills necessary to be accredited as Marine Surveyors in order to use the title of Accredited Marine Surveyor. Members must have a minimum of 5 years experience and must pass an examination of a SAMS testing committee in order to earn this designation.
Ray Bracken is a SAMS Accredited Marine Surveyor, also a member of: American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), Boat/US Tech. Exch., National Fire Protection Association Member, American Society of Safety Engineers and is a certified instructor for the Occupational Safety and Health Organization (OSHA), International Institute of Marine Surveyors (IIMS).

Randy Renn has over twenty years experience as a Marine Surveyor, first working with a national surveyors group and then forming his own company. Achieved the status of Accredited Marine Surveyors® (A.M.S.) and Engine Designation (E.) from the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors. Full member on the International Institute of Marine Surveyors in the UK-FIIMS. Affiliate member of the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association. Provides inspection and investigation services throughout the United States and abroad for both individual maritime purchases and insurance investigations. Provides expert witness testimony for litigated maritime cases. As one of the few Surveyors in the country with the engine designation he has invested heavily in the latest engine diagnostic equipment and the education and training necessary to use the equipment effectively. Marine Forensic Technicians has five surveyors apprentices and has provided the training and exposure necessary for them to become accredited in the field. Randy is a member of Catastrophe Teams for maritime insurance groups. Has developed a Marina Managers Curriculum that was displayed at the IBEX Education Pavilion. Captain Nolen, AMS is a SAMS Accredited Marine Surveyor, ABYC-Member, Boat/US Tech. Exch., National Fire Protection Association Member and Chapman graduate.
Captain Nolen, AMS is also a licensed Captain and has taken extensive courses in relations to being a better surveyor. A native Marylander, Captain Nolen has been in the area for many years serving the Upper Chesapeake and beyond.
