You should expect professionalism, expert knowledge and thoroughness from any surveyor, but Carl McCann offered so much more. First, because of boat issues the survey was changed at the last minute three times. This was truly unfair to Mr McCann and his business, but he showed a patience and graciousness that went well beyond normal business etiquette. Secondly, while I was afraid of constantly bugging Mr McCann with questions while he worked, he patiently explained what he was doing and the issues he was seeing as they arose. While a surveyor can never make the decision on whether or not to buy a boat, Mr McCann took my (lack of) knowledge into consideration and presented the findings in such a clear and understandable fashion that it made my decision much easier. In the end, enough serious issues were found that I did not move forward with purchasing a boat that I had really come to like. But given what I learned through the survey I have never had a moment of regret about the decision to step away. By the same token, if a boat sailed through a survey performed by Mr McCann, I would have absolute confidence that there would be no hidden issues. I would hope all surveyors would find the issues that Mr McCann found, and I would hope they would all communicate as well as Mr McCann, but if you are looking for a surveyor around Naples (or anywhere in Florida) I highly recommend calling Associated Marine Consultants as he went well beyond any expectations.
