Calypso Sea Surveyors

After a 30+ year career in the energy industry, Pieter Smuts is now the owner and surveyor for CalypsoSea Marine surveyors.

A career Electrical Engineer and professional project manager, Pieter discovered his passion for boats and boating about 20 years ago.

Since then, Pieter has meticulously and extensively refitted several older sailing and powered vessels, starting with a small 18-foot jet boat to his current pride and joy, a 1987 38-foot Cabo Rico sailing cutter. Adding to this experience, Pieter learned about boats and their systems through extensive sailing experience, crewing on many coastal and international deliveries, and sailing his boats.

Pieter is a member of ABYC and is a qualified ABYC master technician with certifications in Electrical Systems, Marine Systems, and ABYC Standards. He is also a formally trained and registered Master Marine Surveyor, graduating from the “industry standard” Chapman School of Seamanship’s Yacht and Small Craft Surveying program.

He is a registered Navtech US Surveyors Association surveyor under MMS #50122.

Armed with extensive experience, Pieter knows what to look for on your boat. Being a lifelong service professional also means knowing how vital service is; with a “service is everything” mindset, the customer comes first for Pieter.
