I hired Jerry Olson to conduct a pre-purchase marine survey for a 2001 Bavaria 47, with the survey completed on April 16, 2026. At the time, he committed to delivering the report by April 20. Unfortunately, that deadline came and went with no communication. After multiple unanswered texts, I finally received the report on May 1—well after we had already closed on the vessel on April 24 without the benefit of the “pre-purchase” survey. This completely undermined the purpose of hiring a surveyor in the first place. Beyond the delay, the report itself appeared largely boilerplate and did not reflect the level of detail or vessel-specific insight I expected. During the survey, Jerry took personal phone calls and did not inspire confidence that a thorough, systematic inspection was being performed. Overall, this experience was disappointing. Timeliness, communication, and attention to detail are essential in a pre-purchase survey, and in this case, those expectations were not met.
